Final Year Project

Project Title

Gentrification, Real Estate & Power Politics – The Impact of Habib University on Pehlwan Goth

Description

My thesis focuses on the impacts of establishing Habib University on its neighbourhood, to elucidate the phenomena of gentrification, real estate, and power politics in Pehlwan Goth. This research aims to present a comparative analysis of the development processes and its effects on the social, material, and economic spaces before and after the establishment of the University. I conducted in-depth interviews to understand the impact of the University on its surroundings. Habib University’s inception in 2014 has had a small but essential role in reaffirming a civilian culture that had been lost in a previously gang-set space. It has been a key catalyst in improving local political conditions, alternative job opportunities, as well as overall sense of social security.
